SEO Audits: What You Can Expect from Our Free Website Audit
You may be aware that we offer a free SEO analysis to all visitors to our site, offering you the chance to see exactly what we would recommend for your website. Lots of companies have taken up our offer, but for those who aren’t sure, we want to give you an introduction to what you can expect from our audit! The purpose of our website audit is to break down all the aspects of your site which may be affecting it’s ranking on search engines. There are several areas which search engines use to rank websites and these are all sort of “top secret” and known only to Google (or Yahoo, Bing etc). We as search engine optimisers need to act as detectives to figure out which aspects the search engines are looking at, and how they are reading your website. We can do this by analysing your site for a number of different areas:
The domain strength
We look at the strength of the domain first and foremost, using a range of different tools and metrics.
Every website needs to have a good and varied backlink profile, with links formed from other relevant websites. Sometimes, we see where other SEO agencies have used link building strategies to build links, and other times there are no links at all! Natural link building is one of the main focus areas for most websites and a point that many business websites fail.
Another key area we analyse is the heading tags used on the main pages of your site. In our free audit, we check around 4-5 pages depending on the size of the website presented. The heading tags are an important part of the content, as they help search engines to understand what your page is about. It is essential that your H1 tag is completely relevant for the keywords you wish to rank for, with a range of supporting H2 tags to follow. Many sites we see either have far too many H1 tags (there should only ever be one H1 per page!) or they do not have the right combination of headings.
The content of the site is not fully analysed as a rule, as this can be a lengthy process. We do however check a few aspects related to content. First and foremost is the issue of duplicate content. Something search engines really do not like is repeating content, which many websites inadvertently use across their pages! Whether it is descriptions for products for sale or services you provide, it is important that your content is unique and relevant across all your pages. All the information we gather through our in-depth website audit is presented to you in an easy to understand PDF document, with recommendations of how we suggest improving your site.
