Cornish Wave
Cornish Wave are a provider of surfing lessons, coasteering sessions and other adventure outdoor activities in Newquay, Cornwall. Cornish Wave got in touch with us in February 2017 after having seen some poor results with the SEO Agency they were currently using, in particular, a drop in rankings just prior to the high season for his business. Cornish Wave came on board with a Squarespace website, which we alerted them to the limitations of, from an SEO perspective, but we reassured them that we would be able to see good results regardless. After three months of work on the site we saw a significant increase in the number of terms in the top 5 positions on Google. In the coming years we continued to improve the rankings for Cornish Wave whilst also helping the site target new activities such as wild camping, equipment rental, adventure weekends and, more recently, paddleboarding and kayaking. When we began our work with Cornish Wave we discovered first page rankings for approximately 37 terms, as of March 2023 we now have over 110 terms on the first page of Google. This has resulted in significant traffic increased for the business with total visits in March 2017 (just after we started) hitting just over 1000, this figure in March 2023 is now over 6,000 with organic traffic driving 58% of users to the site.
Improved Organic Traffic
Cornish Wave had a number of rudimentary issues with his website’s SEO when we first started such as improperly formatted title tags, heading tags and poorly optimised content. We also noticed a number of opportunities for specific landing pages targeting longer tailed terms which were identified during our extensive keyword research. Improving the reach of the site for what was already in place and the expansion of Cornish Wave into new areas to target helped us in gaining the significant improvement in visitor numbers seen over the course of the campaign.
Link Building
As with all SWEO Campaigns, a properly implemented link building strategy is key to success. We created quality backlinks on strong page-rank websites that were relevant to Cornish Waves service offering. This improved the target page’s (and the website’s) authority with Google and helped us in gaining the improvement in rankings seen in the statistics.
Conclusion
Cornish Wave have seen significant success over the course of the campaign with superb increases in rankings and visitor numbers. We have also completed two website redesigns over the course of the campaign to keep Cornish Wave at the forefront of technology and Google’s expectations when it comes to website performance.
